How To Use ?
- Use this suspension in the affected eye(s) as directed by your physician.
- To put eye drops in, wash your hands first. To prevent infection, do not touch the dropper tip or allow it to contact your eye or any other surface.
- Do not use contact lenses while you are using this drug. Sterilize contact lenses as directed by the manufacturer, and ask your doctor before you start using them again.
- Shake well before use. Tilt the head backward and look upward while pulling down the lower eyelid to form a pouch.
- Look down, gently close your eyes, and place one finger at the corner of the eye (near the nose).
- Keep applying gentle pressure for about 1 to 2 minutes before opening your eyes. This prevents the medication from draining away.
- Try not to blink or rub your eye. If using this medication on both eyes, repeat this procedure for the other eye. Do not rinse the dropper. Close the dropper cap after each use.
- Wait at least 5 minutes before putting on other medicines if you are using a different type of eye medicine (e.g., drops or ointments). Apply eye drops ahead of eye ointments so that the drops can enter the eye.
- Wait a few minutes for your vision to become clear before driving or machinery operation.
- Take this medicine regularly to benefit from it. Take it for the entire duration of time for which it was prescribed, even if symptoms are gone after some days.
- The medication should not be stopped before the full time prescribed, as this can lead to a recurrence of infection.
- This medication is normally prescribed for 2 to 3 weeks or until the cure of the infection. Inform your doctor if your condition persists or worsens.
Uses
Natamycin Ophthalmic Suspension is prescribed for fungal eye infections. It acts by preventing some kinds of fungus from growing.
This Natamycin Ophthalmic Suspension only acts on fungal eye infections. It will not be effective in other kinds of eye infections. Unnecessary or excessive use of any infection-treating drug may decrease its effectivity.
Precautions
- Make sure you take Natamycin Ophthalmic Suspension for the entire length of time your prescriber tells you to, even if your eye is improving.
- Call your prescriber if your eye infection doesn’t improve within a few days of taking Natamycin Ophthalmic Suspension. This may be an indication that it’s not the correct treatment for your infection.
- Natamycin Ophthalmic Suspension treats only fungal eye infection. You’ll need another drug if your infection is bacterial or viral.
- Shake the Natamycin Ophthalmic Suspension before each use of the eye drops. This ensures the medication is well mixed for each dose.
- Wash your hands prior to placing Natamycin Ophthalmic Suspension in your eye(s). Do not allow the dropper tip to touch your eye or to any surface. This will prevent spreading germs to the medication. It also prevents other germs from entering into your eye.
- Once you’ve put a drop of Natamycin Ophthalmic Suspension into your eye, close your eye and press one finger gently against the inner corner of your eye near your nose for 1 minute. This ensures all of the medicine is absorbed into your eye rather than running off into your nose.
- If you must use other eye drugs along with Natamycin Ophthalmic Suspension, wait a minimum of 5 minutes between drops to allow each drug to take effect in your eye(s). Use the eye drop drugs first, wait 5 minutes, and then put on any eye gels or eye ointments.
- Do not use contact lenses while you use Natamycin Ophthalmic Suspension. Generally speaking, do not use contacts while you have an eye infection because it may influence how quickly your symptoms get better. Be sure to discard the contact lenses you were wearing prior to starting Natacyn (natamycin) because they likely have bacteria on them. Use new lenses after your infection has resolved.
- Keep Natamycin Ophthalmic Suspension at room temperature (between 36 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit). Place the medication in a place where it will not be exposed to moisture and where it is not light-sensitive and won’t be subjected to extreme heat.
